It's up! No, it's down. Wait, it's. back u. . .back down again!
Aos hits Europa and AoS knocked the shit out of poor old Europa. It went up
right on schedule and the rush to place was on. After about 90 minutes the
shard crashed and players had to start over from a revert. That pattern
held throughout the day: Up, freeze, crash, down, revert. I never counted
them but Id say well over 10 reverts were made.
People had been staying up all night, staying home from work and school and
generally neglecting whatever was happening in their lives. Well they could
have slept in and waited until the afternoon anyways. We should have known
better. It took hours before Cynthe finally posted that the programmers
were now asleep (albeit after working very long) and that nothing more
could be done in a few hours. All the while Europa kept coming up. Some
determined players hadnt even eaten as they kept repeating their logins for
hour after hour. Why the fuck didnt they just tell people that Europa
wouldnt come up until it was fixed again. Oh well
Once I got through the "fix" - an artificial cap on the number of players
allowed on the shard - it was basically over. I did find a spot, but not
until a damned sprite, by the name of Cynthe, had spotted my bad karma
house placer and PKd her. Perhaps there was a deeper meaning in that?
Who knows? Anyways to better convey the chaos and frustration, take a look
at some of of my screenshots of yesterday.

I see the fiasco with the American shards taught OSI how to implement the
AoS publish properly. Oh, wait, no, that was sarcasm. Again. It seems that
when I'm talking about OSI, sarcasm is all I can use.
On the plus side, it did mean that everyone in Europe who wanted AoS had
the chance to pick the game up some time that afternoon before any kind of
permanent placing was actually possible. I'll bet that anyone who took a
day off work to make sure they could place, or anyone who stayed up all
night to get the first chance is very happy with OSI.
Actually, it's almost reaching the point where I can't even be bothered
with directing sarcasm OSI's way. Roll on SWG, I say.
*UO begins to spasm uncontrollably*
You see: a corpse of UO

I was expecting bedlam, but not to the extent we saw. Was funny at times
(not to those that placed and lost in reverts obviously) mostly because of
the way it clearly wasn't handled.
the fact they haven't taken the cap off yet sucks...

Age Of Shadows,
I quite like the name, it surely casted one big shadow on europa. Now I am
a person who was able to place an nice spot and made a profit from it. So
clearning that out of the way. Here is my piece and be ready for a LONG
one.
I have been playing UO for 3 years now, made friends, enemies, got scammed
got emptied whatever you know the drill the good old UO game, where
everything is possible and "allowed" .
I was one of the people who got AOS from the United States (thanks Steve!).
I did this to be sure no bs would arrise during the big placement rush.
Osi however proclaiming happyness told us we never had seen so much sales
its unbelievable. Now lets put this in perspective, I am glad there is soo
much interest in an expansion pack. But as an technician in training and
even a damn programmer myself i would ask myself the following:
"Can the server take this load" cause its quite easy to get sales and
compare them to the actual "on paper" system specs. Hell even simulate this
wonderfull spike by dossing a server to death like the United States
servers and the Japanese servers have done or even EU now which was the
worst one to be struck down by this madness.
Osi, you could have killed the damn login problems by minimizing the access
to it, you could have had a login screen saying account and password, what
shard you want to enter?
bang! there went 50% less data to your login servers problem which was a
big one. You could have upgraded the servers to get it all working nicely,
you could have prepared beter then to let this unproffesional road you
took.
Hell you boasted a 200x beter compression for housing, i can believe that.
But why didn't you think ahead of everything and started looking at
optimizing the packets UO sends to the servers cause they are how old 4
years they are?
You didn't take any measure at all nothing to show you where aware of the
problems. Except by capping the servers so that the servers wouldn't crash
cause of the sheer numbers of getting in.
Why not make a new server for AOS ? maybe 2! since there are soo many new
players coming and allowing only new players to enter. Its all so easy for
me to tell you this. But drinking a nice coffee and sitting on a couch does
wonders!?!
Friends told me you won't listen to what i say, but im going to push it
down to you now you are persistant in making mistakes as I can be
persistant in getting the truth.
You failed OSI,
Cynthe,
Mrtact,
Sunsword,
and any server technician at osi
you did not participate ANYTHING that happened with this Launch, absolutly
nothing.
Sunsword, you have made your popularity drop like a rock this time not by
saying trammel is not a mirror! nooo but by throwing caps on a damn server
and plain our lying,
you claimed that you cannot allow American players to enter EU shard, so
how come i cannot enter Muegen when it first opened or any of the many
Japanese shards?
its not that hard so it seems so why are you saying its not technically
possible?
Cynthe, No flames nor rants, thats why im posting here. But banning good
sites was the lowest thing you could have done.I will never forget what you
have done. Not forget that you are a community killer and deck community
sites who aren't zombies who follow to your tune.
Mr Tact: "Europa will go smooth" You are a nice guy Mr Tact a few of the
ones i hold respect for. You got nerve to standup sometimes and take all
the flames right on. I am sure you will stand against this critism and tell
them you are wrong.
And i am sure you will do something to lessen this grief.
I am not a greedy european saying screw the US players, but seeing as some
people are just there to ebay cause EUropa is so active is just plain
lame.
I detest this fact that the people who only went to europa to get money are
people who need to look in the mirror and ask themselves am i proud of
this?
AM I PROUD THAT I STOLE SOMEONE'S DREAM OF A NICE SPOT.
think about it OSI,
and think about the following line
"Europa is not full"
*clicks*
Shard is full
lol?
I either hope to see a new shard or i will help you making the shard
empty.
I had it being objective with someone who can only make a smoke screen of
lies and kicking off good site who post the damn truth. uopowergamers
anyone?
You have lost Osi, AOS might be succesfull in the short run, but long run
your doomed. No'one will forget this.
I will never forget it,
the lies and bull has gotten right to my head and i will do whatever i can
to make MY GAME the beter MMPORG then what you can dish out with this
Ultima Diablo.

I was one of the lucky ones...
I placed a 18x18 in Luna about 6 times of the 14 reverts. I placed outside
Umbra about 4 times, and eventually I logged in 2 hours after they put up
the Server Full crap... I ran for 2 hours to find nothing...
Then to my surprise I found an open spot, I placed a 18x18, then got my
gf's daughter to place an 18x18 next to it... so... 2x 18x18s in total Right next to
eachother... Phew, I'm so lucky.
