UOPG Question of the Week - 01/28/03
If you quit UO, would you sell out on EBAY?
Why or why not?
Hasta.

Ebay
exactly... y not?
well... the only way i'd see someoen NOT selling their account on ebay is
if they have no access to an ebay account what so ever... but if you do...
try and sell it... even if you dont get much.... its better than NOTHING

Nope, I might sell houses and items but the characters would go with me,
they're my work, my personal property, so to speak. It would feel weird
selling them to someone else. Plus I might want to come back!

i think the only reason i wouldn't would be what wargrind said...i might
come back and then i'd be so pissed that i wouldn't have the characters i
worked so hard for...but i wouldn't have any problem selling all the stuff
i have layin around

unlikely (though I reserve the right to be wrong!).
would probably find a good cause and give my crap away, and give my account
over to a mate.

i would not sell on ebay
I have already quit uo, several times (laughs), but finally for good. The
reason why i didnt sell on ebay was because i made a decision to
disassociate myself from the game entirely, and i knew full well how long
it takes to sell all the stuff and that when you do sell it, then you have
to continue to log in to distribute your stuff. Even at a $10 hour job,
its questionable whether or not this is worth anyones time. I calculated
that the extra time spent distributing all my mills and goodies would have
been a waste of time. I could have made far more real life money just
going a couple extra hours at work and at the same time be finished with
the game. After all, quitting the game is exactly that: quitting. And
btw, i urge you all to consider it. stop being pixel representations of
Skinner's pidgeons and Pavlov's dogs. The old days of conquest in UO are
far over. Though, i miss many of the great friends i made, i felt it was
time to move on. God Bless You All.

I'm not really sure what I would do.
If I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that I would never go back to UO, then
I probably would sell the accounts on ebay for no other reason than to get
a little bit of the money back that I have put into them.
Before I would do that though, I think I would give my rares and other
special items to friends before selling it.
I have no plans of quitting at this time. I have played for 5+ years and I
am still having fun.

Not my characters.
I would maybe sell off my worldly possessions, but not my girls.
I made them, I am unnaturally attached to them, and would not want someone
else playing them.

I think this is a good question. I have left UO 4 times...and come
back...er...5? WTF is wrong with me, you ask? I dunno...Dr's still
haven't diaged it right yet.
I was thinking I would sell this time. I have 2 accounts...one with a good
PvP mage, a tamer, and a bard, a good thief, and a 7gm mule. Not a bad
account...comes with a house, mass ingots, regs, boards, leather,
yadayadayada, rares, yadayadayada, and pixel crack. The other account has
three 6x gm melee tanks...and two chars I have no idea wtf to do with.
Also have a house and all the yadas. I could make a good bit selling
these.
But then the guy above mentioned his chars...they are his work and you know
what, so are mine. I hate running across friends characters that I've not
seen for months only to realize it's not them and that they've sold the
account to some other loser that's ruined the characters my friend made.
That just blows.
SOOOOooooooooooooooo...I'd sell the crack. Delete the chars...end the
account. Hell, I've started over so many times I'm getting good at it.

hmmmm
i guess it comes down to if the price was right for me then i probably
would...but then again the price is never right
my chars go back to first day there is alot of history and memories that
have amassed over the time in this game for me that being said no i wouldnt
as the personal value outweighs the monatary gain.
and to frog

yet you remain on ultima online releated message boards
dont get me wrong or take this as a flame but if you really wanted to
"disassociate" yourself from the game as you say then you wouldnt be here
now would you....you closet addict

For sure. debating it right now.
Why not? I have payed 360 dollars a year, for 4 or 5 years. Plus how many
expansions?
Osi lets you buy skill.
I don't think its a matter of selling your characters. But lets say you
had an account worthe 200 dollars. It's almost like saying I will loose
200 dollars to not let anyone use my account. That to me is silly. Then
again I am not super rich and 200 dollars is a lot to me.

why not sell?
You pay 9.95 per month to play, why not get that money back and possibly
more for your hard work?
As for the person that said he calculated that he would have made more
money working a couple extra hours than selling all his stuff on the
account, i ask this...why not sell the account as a whole?
Ebay may not be good for OSI, but it's good for us quitters

Unfortunately I sold my old vet account of 60+ months a few months
ago...and I regret it still to this day.
I just recently decided to come back to UO and instead I had to reactivate
my young 7 month account and develop it instead of just jumping on my
polished old account that now is in the hands of a stranger.
Would I do it again? Absolutely not. Never the actual characters. Maybe
items and housing, but that's it.
Btw...if anyone runs into the charactes Valdric Flagg, Jeric Rawlings,
Malik Drakor, Jareb Vandwick or Epona Peace on the Great Lakes shard tell
em I need to talk to them hehe.

Well.... to make it simple No.
To make it more complicated...
Like others have said there is an emotional attachment to your chars...
after all the time and $ you put into their training... and there is the
fact that I would hate to come back if I quit and see other people with my
char... or have other people see my char not acting how I would act....
Anyway....

Would i sell my account on ebay
Yes, i've already sold 3 different accounts
I've played UO since the beginning, and i just sold my third account. I
think i've joined and quit about 5 or 6 times so far, and i wouldn't think
twice about selling my account. Why Not? I put allot of hard work into
the 3 accounts that i've sold, and since i'm not going to play anymore
(yeah right i'll be back in 3 months, it's a disease) I would want someone
else to enjoy the game just as I did.
I understand being attached to the characters, but it's not worth it to me
to either 1. Delete them, 2. Just deactivate your account in the hopes of
returning, or 3. Pay 10 bucks a month forever while your account just
sits. I sold my account, my house, my gold in one auction. Sure i could
have broken it up, probably gotten some more cash, but it's not all about
the cash. I'm sure people are saying that i'm making money off of 1's and
0's, but as long as people are willing, it shouldn't be a problem,
especially since Origin has sold out and started offering Advanced
characters. That's the same thing as buying an account off of ebay. I'm
paying them 30 bucks, for a better than average character. If i was to
buy 4 different characters, that's 120 bucks. That's allot of cash just
for 4 little better than average characters.
I sometimes have regrets about my first account, I worked that account up
before the power hours, etc... I played in the beta, saw the world
destroyed by demons...If i didn't sell it, it would have been deleted, and
then someone wouldn't be able to run around with the character that I
created.
If i start playing again, i'll just rebuild. Make some new characters with
some new personalities.

Nope! BTDT and regretted it.
My wife and I left the game about a year ago. We sold our accounts and all
the stuff on em, two houses, etc etc.
Then we came back. I managed to luck out and relocate my account. I traded
another account for it and have all my tings (mostly) and couldn't be
happier about it. My wife was not so fortunate, and has had to start over
from scratch.
Building characters was fun the first time..well, sort of.. but the second
time around it is teh sux.

Yes! ...or well NO!
I got a lot of friends who would get their share. and my chars, they would
go with me. There wouldn't be much left to sell....I guess if I were a
lonely person I would sell it tho. get some of the money back that OSI took

im 'dumb' enough to sell it
and i dont see why you are all so 'attached' to your chars
if you quit, you arent going to see anyone playing your accct anyway
and if you do come back just start on a new shard
just a game......

I have alot of friends who play and could benifit from the things i have

i would have to distribute the items to them and the accounts would most
likely be deactivated.

After about 5 months (back in the pre-trammel days) of running around,
getting about 4k for armor and a weapon, then loseing said armor and weapon
to the pks on baja a friend of mine who played quit.
He had a big nest egg, played a fisherman to the letter. Thus had a ton of
MIB's he did. So he gave all his stuff to me and a few of guildmates. I
ended up with a clothing bless deed, some plants, a small house right
outside Yew. It was really nice of him, and well the house was next to a
Orc prisoner camp spawn, along with spawns of Orc's, Trolls, and god knows
what. Anyhow that let me train my chars up on baja, and in 2 months (again
before trammel) my guys could take on a lone pk mage and win.
If I ever quit, my stuff go's to a newbie. Oh some may say OSI owes me for
playing on there shards. Or that it's getting all the money back.
Why sell the stuff? I don't buy anything off ebay, and I don't want to.
Everything of mine should stay in game, besides that I made those chars, I
don't want them ending up in the hands of someone who was banned or a
prick. Anyhow flame away about how I'm gay or a nerd.
