This just a Rant---OUTLOOK ATE MY HOMEWORK!!
I'm sitting in my wee Cube, pounding out Code and documents that are of
little or no import to anyone not directly involved with my work.
*ping* MS Outlook tells me I've only got five minutes to finish what I'm
working on before I MUST attend a mindless meeting.
*burp-ping* Before I can even react to the annoying reminder, an email
request for data I already sent out yesterday comes in.
I quickly pull up yesterday's email containing the requested data in an
Excel format, and forward the missive with an acidic remark appropriate to
the situation. Click send.
And then sit for ten minutes waiting for my Dell P4 2.00 GHz to process the
request(s). (At least the meeting reminder is silent.)
After the ten minute wait, I attempt a three finger salute to bring up
taskmanager, in the vain hope of at least being able to pinpoint the
bottleneck process...
Not a chance... the machine won't even do that much. Okay time for a
reboot, but without a keyboard?
AHHA! The soft off button! Just press to center power button and hold it
down until the machine shuts down.
HMMMM....should only require a few seconds of holding the damned
button...not minutes.
OKAY, lets get old school on this #@%$&*!!, show the machine who is boss.
Use the slinky black master shutoff switch where it snakes over to the wall
outlet.
Fume for a minute or two, then plug the puppy back in and boot.
Restart the Dell, open freaking Outlook and the email from yesterday and
copy the excel spreadsheet to my handy-dandy USB memoy chip keyfob and
sneaker network the data to the cube it is ultimately destined for...
Ain't technology great?
