Fast Cast
Fast Cast Recovery
All else is gravy. But a few things I have my eye on are...
elemental/phys resists
SDI
LMC
+INT
And to lesser degrees...
DCI(for mage)
HCI(for mage key stuns)
Guilty pleasures...
Self-Repair
Nightsight
Ack! Way more then five. My first two are only real important ones for me
at this point(yes, I am that far behind the curve still).

Item properties are not bad, people are bad hehe
I think the conceptual idea behind item properties is fine. It is the
implementation that sucked. Think about it an "emminently accurate silver
katana of vanquishing" is still a weapon with item properties on it!
All OSI was trying to do was to throw a quick & easy power escalation into
UO. Unfortunately, they botched it up by
1) Putting in too many properties at once
2) Leaving legacy broken systems in the game
3) Adding the artifact system on top of 1)
Too much too soon, especially when all of it is buggy and not balanced can
ruin any game. So, it is not the items that are bad it is the people
Like so many things in UO, Im sure it is here to stay. Only thing OSI will
do now is screw it up even more by putting "caps" on some properties. In
my experience, caps are nothing more than a poor design "stop-gap" because
a dev team is not creative enough to solve the problem properly or the
programming team is not good to properly implement a good design.
I still say that once you pass through to Felucca you should be unable to
wear any overpowered items. That is a blanket stop-gap that will really
level the playing field. If OSI is gonna screw things up, then they mine
as well go all the way!
The reason I started this thread was to determine the properties people
liked the most. I am curious to see just how often "desirable" properties
spawn on items. I know I know OSI says it is all random, but I am not
seeing that at all in the item database (monster loot project).

Best part of them days is you only had said katana for a few days before it
got passed on to a victor, repaired and passed on once again.
Now that I think about it I think UO died to me when the numbers replaced
might, power, vanq and so forth.
fucknuts should make a t2a shard and leave it the hell alone.

Correct analysis, but completely wrong conclusion.
Item properties wouldnt be a big problem if it wasn't for item insurance.
The reason most people didn't run araound with their über shit back in the
day, was because every last mofo would quit whatever they were doing and
come after you. The resulting lag from the flocking ganksters would be so
bad, that the only thing to come close would have been Malas on AoS publish
day.
But that's OK, because that decked out idiot is taking a huge risk and
deserves his/her edge, and anyways it's very temporary.
Current (non group) "pvp" is increasingly looking like a trading card game
to me. The dude who packs the best deck wins almost everytime. Which is why
people spend $ at the store. Their wallets are much more important than
their playing skills. And that, Ladies and Gentlemen, is why we are where
we are. Players like to pit their skills against each other, but companies
like to earn the green stuff.

the problem isnt arties or insurance. its the age old tale of people being
able to make chars that have no counters. there is no counter to a 4/6 with
70 resists 120 resist on a gm crafted swampy armor'd swampy with 40+ sdi
and a good connection.
they need to re-do the bigger properties with some counters, and they need
to re-do the lower properties with some bonuses and they need to make it
all slightly more common and make a ton more of different kinds.
diablo is balanced because theres 100's of "arties" theres no way uo can be
balanced with about 6 major arties its not possible
berserker maul
magi hat
bracers
magi staff
arcane shield
orny
theres no way to balance those without making new crap that is a counter to
them. like a freakin wep that lowers the persons fast cast or spell damage.
osi is f-ing retarded for not making a counter to those. thats why its
unbalanced.

No the fundamental problem is still that insurance removed the last trace
of risk vs reward. A proper risk vs reward reintroduced to the game would
make this discussion moot. Everyone would adjust and use items that are
abundant and cheap/easy to replace. It might even *gasp* give crafters some
more customers because suddenly the utility/price ratio matters. As it is,
it's a race to max out the winning combo of properties. After that race is
over and done with, whats left for the player to do? His equipment will
pretty much win the fights by itself.
With so many properties, you can't expect to counter any given set. What
are you supposed to do? Take a time out and run home to get that *other*
suit? Great, just great. Ill stand here like a x-mas tree and wait for you!
