pvp....... what about the part i enjoyed the most???

dueling... duel a necro mage, blood oat, damn what am i supposed to do on my heal mage?

duel a paladin healer/fighter... they cast concecrate and can heal/cure just like a mage can... man what balance

basically its either you become necro or a paladin or its useless to try...

you don't need unber armor to win
Obviously i agree that a reasonably armored character can beat well to unarmored people.

And obviously unarmored people will die in two hits or spells.

But what do you do against that rare person that has full sets of double-digit resist armor and the best weapons and jewlry. You can't hurt them, and they can still hurt you.

Pre-AoS pvp was generally okay unless you were trying to go toe to toe with somebody that had a blessed verite/valorite weapon. Now everyone can have that kind of weapon, so that part is balanced (and the LJ skill was reduced to a waste of points), but now we have a few people who are almost untouchable.

Mr Sparkle that is a damn good idea!

I would have more respect for the aos and pvp if they lowered the max resistance to 50 or at least have a resist cap of 250. Ubers will still be able to have 70 in some resists but would have to lower others. this would be awesome.

I have yet to see any really nasty archers on Eu, so if they are as overpowered as you say...
at the moment pvp is good fun tho. Anyone who says a mage is underpowered is foolish, learn to use them properly (protection for gawds sake, you cant be interrupted! Dp fields! muaha)
And people complaining about lancers.. use bolas! Player craftable, reusable, just as effective, and mean you can be swinging a better weapon than a lance (which lets face it is fking slow, and crap except for that first hit)

well, i haven't pvped since AoS, but with the stuff I've read/heard/experienced with pvm, its probably a big change. problem is, as a general rule, human beings don't like change. myself included.

Yes and no.

Yes: Lots of reds to fight on Chesapeake and Catskills.

No: Most of the reds are archer mages with spell channeling bows that can parablow you, then exp + FS you. Gay.

Yes: Special moves add diversity to PvP. My pirate, whom formerly got owned in straight PvP now wins a lot more with his scimmy and explosion pot combos.

No: Certain weapons got the wrong special moves. Two handed weapons should not have doublestrike. What human being can swing an axe two times in the span of one normal swing? Plus it's overpowered. Wands should not have dismount.. Who hits someone with a wand and knocks them off a horse? Oh, and where's my good, poisonable sword weapons for my swordsman? Butcher knives and cleavers..? What the hell..

Yes: Necromancy and chivalry add diversity to PvP, making people learn how to counteract new spells.

No: Most necro spells allow for an instakill (pain spike with a heavy hitting weapon and special move anyone? Revenants?). Chivalry makes some people damn near unkillable, what with their close wounds where they never have to drop a weapon, and all their buffer spells.

Yes: It's neat to see people using new weapons with different attributes.

No: Everyone insures anything good.

Yes: Customized PvP houses make fights interesting and fun.

No: Private houses my assassin can't stealth in to, and houses with 'owner only' doors and teleporters are lame.

As you can see, it's a mixed basket, and this could have been the greatest UO expansion ever had some balance issues just been explored more. But right now no, PvPis not very fun.

Of course, it's mostly the fault of the players for all resorting to the gimpiest tactics available. Last night I was on my swords mage and got attacked by two archers. We'll call them archers A and B.

A: 45 damage hit against my 40 phys resist.
Me: Chug GH, begin In Vas Mani.
A: 45 damage parablow hit, interrupting my In Vas Mani.
B: 45 damage parablow, killing me.

Bows are now the overpowered gimp weapon again, being both hard hitting and fast, and now para can't be broken.. Just lame..

Definitely not. The new resists are silly and people in Fellucca are few and far between. Red (FS!) and "Blue(?)" PK guilds (BC) are running around more freely, but the anti guilds are not forming. People don't have to cooperate in defense, they just move to Malas.

HAHAHAA,, huh?....

Oh!! *sheepish grin* You were serious?

*clears throat*

Well..er.. you asked is PvP still fun? I'd have to respond to this question with a resounding NO.

In an effort to `trammelise' the game, they have over-plumbed the drains... made everything so damn complicated, it takes you forever to figure out what will happen if you switch weapons. What happened to SKILL based play? Rather than actually `trammelising' the game, they have suceeded in `traumatising' it.

Bottom line... you can now play UO in DAOC, cause it's the same thing there. But over there, you get nice 3D.. and housing/horses are on the way. In DAOC, you are you by what you wear and swing. It USED to be that here in UO, you were identified by some sense of style. Anyone remember Sir Bart and his boys?.. say what you want, it was you against them.. not `what Im wearing versus what you are wearing'. Anyone remember CPT?? Individually, they sucked!.. but man!.. what a team! And they were a team because they trained together and worked their SKILLS.. they didnt get `uber shit' to wear and wield.

PvP was given it's walking papers in UO the minute tram was born. I'm not againbst tram.. honest I'm not.. own a house there myself, actually, and love it. However, PvP only works when the threat of red/pk'rs is the same for EVERYone.. forcing people to band together and defend themselves. As it is now, you can flee to the safety of Trammel and Malas.

It was soooo cool `back in the day', when it was killed or be killed. "BUT KDF!!.. I dont WANT to PK or get killed like that!" Then learn the skills you need to not be around when the pk'rs and reds are. You learn, beleive me.. I did!.. I cannot tell you the number of times I died in Brit cemetery back when it was the loot place to be (it was in the ancient past, folks). And I cannot express the utter and shear satisfaction when the day came I killed my first red, running out of Deceit for his life, and I'm all over his ass like ugly on a gorilla. I dropped him and looted his ass.. gutted the body and turned in the head for a reward, too!

But I digress...

;)

PvP WAS fun.. when it meant something and added the quiniscental realism and immersion you need for such a game as UO and DAOC are (well.. at least are supposed to be). I don't want to return to the old days.. but shame on OSI for not learning lessons from those old days. Factions are dead, and guilds not needed. Make them both into a coherant system that CAN be used in PvP!

*slaps forhead*

There I go.. thinking they'll listen to reason again.

Silly fucking me.

(Are you sure this question wasn't just a joke?) *sighs*

PvP is now neither fun nor is it by no means fair. It is 100% predictable especially since every weapon pretty much does the same amount of damage each hit... and how every fencer thinks their the shiznit cause they can dismount/mount kill and how every axer gains pride with 2 consecutive double strikes. My mage is practically useless in pvp doing 15 damage ebolts at 110 eval....The same boring re run over and over and over. The diversity and mystery UO once had is lost. Though I still faithfuly tag along with EA's devious patches in hope of some new hope....

Fun? Yes.
Fair? Yes.

Do people need to get used to and understand all the new abilites and what they do and how to change their stratigies so they don't die in 3 hits and also figure out that you don't need unber armor to win? Yes.

only when you are in big group battles of 10+ each side. those were the only fun pvping things from back in the day. i remember being able to compete with this template:
100 fencing
100 tactics
95 anat
80 healing
85 magery
90s med
60s resist
90/90/45
i would still work on him whenever i wasnt pvping and guarding the minax base for 12 hrs at a time
